Combat inflammation by staying hydrated

Staying hydrated.

I have always struggled with this, I know many others have too.

It can stem from lack of wanting to drink more water, to the fact you gotta pee all the time, hydration is IMPERATIVE to our survival. Our bodies need it. It helps our bodily systems function, it helps clear out toxins that cause inflammation, it helps us sleep and feel better. Bottom line WE NEED to be hydrated!

Here are some major reasons why and how it helps combat inflammation:

  1. Our bodies are made up of 60% water, so without it our bodies internal systems (digestion, circulation, body temperature, absorption, etc) could not function——- so we would not be functioning (aka dead). If we are lacking full hydration then how will our immune system function to fight invaders and inflammation? This is why we always say drink alot of water and stay hydrated when you are sick!

  2. It helps with muscle performance (whether during exercise or just daily movement). Muscles need hydration to be able to glide and contract and relax how they should.

  3. It helps your skin. Your skin requires water to maintain its suppleness, if you are dehydrated skin will look more wrinkled and dry. (no it will not erase wrinkles, but it can help prevent them in the first place).

  4. Can prevent hunger pains. A lot of times when we experience what we think are food cravings, we are actually just thirsty. Rule of thumb, if you feel that way drink a big glass of water, then see if you are still hungry.

  5. Helps cleanse our bodies- So I want you to think of this for a second, whether it is digestive or liver or kidney function they all need water to work and flush out the toxic stuff we digest and ingest from eating and our surroundings. They all need to flush this stuff out and if we have hydration problems they can become stagnant. This is crucial to combating inflammatory issues as most inflammation is stemming from toxins that have seeped into our digestion and circulatory systems.

  6. Fight fatigue. Dehydration can cause you to feel lethargic. Something as simple as grabbing a glass of water can really and truly help you wake up. Little side note – add a splash of lemon and sea salt in it to help replenish electrolytes.

  7. Get your digestion moving. Speaking on this again, but we all want our digestive system to work properly to not allow stuff to lay stagnant in our intestines and gut for too long which can do more harm than good (inflammation anyone?). That is why I recommend having a glass of room temperature water first thing in the morning when you get up. Add a splash of lemon and sea salt to it to help replenish electrolytes and it will taste better. This will help you get your digestion moving after laying flat all night when you were sleeping. I recommend this to all my clients. Keep it by your bed if you need to as a reminder.

hydrated

I know sometimes our days are fast moving and its easy to forget to drink up! Which is why I recommend to do these 3 things DAILY to improve it –

  1. Drink a glass when you FIRST GET UP, before coffee or anything else.

  2. Drink a big glass before every meal.

  3. Aim to drink your weight in oz every day. So if you weigh 150 lbs then you drink 150 oz.  I know that can seem like a lot but start with ½ or ¾ of it if so, then every few days increase it. I promise it will get easier!

Then last but not least you can always throw in a supplement like Liquid IV to get some added nourishment on a cellular level. I drink this stuff daily ( I am chronically dehydrated and it helps me so much!) I love the lemon lime too! Head over to my Amazon Favorites to get some!

Ps. You can also save 20% on Defiance Fuel (my go to water) by using code : CCunningham20 (head to the link below to find out about both #LiquidIV AND #DefianceFuel.
